Revolution Day 13: Opening. • I have done this practice about 3 times in the last 5 days, but couldn’t bring myself to post about it for some reason! I will say it was the full moon friday, my 20th birthday on 4/20, and then Easter Sunday. So it was a full weekend. Full of emotions, full of work, full of activities. • Opening, for me, is all about the heart and the hips. We store soooo much emotion in our hips, and I often forget that it is not only the inner (yin) side of the hip that needs opening, but also the outer (yang) side. I have recently been discovering that my inner hips are much more flexible than my outer hips and wow what a discovery! Check your outer hips my friends! • So I also think there is something to be said here about quieting the mind in practice. I think that many yogis (speaking from experience) often take the “quiet the mind” idea a little to aggressively. Sometimes during a practice we try so hard to make sure any thought that comes in gets shut down that we start to get really rigid in our movement, stop breathing, and impede the whole idea of practice. I think calming an over-active mind is important, but once an over active mind is at rest, allow freedom in the mind to explore the thoughts that do come up. Don’t close yourself off for the achievement of “quiet.” I don’t think that is really the goal for this opening practice. I think what we are trying to quiet is the excess activity of the mind so that we can be OPEN to what the practice may have for us in this moment; what thoughts may come up that can shed light on holding patterns that are causing our energetic body to be uneasy. Sometimes were are like “Really? This shit again!” LOL but if it comes up, we probably need to stop judging it and deal with it. Our body is giving us an opportunity to do that!! To have the experience of feeling! Had an awesome walk with puppies 🐶 🐕 on #EasterSunday at La Pine State Park. We did the 3.25 mile Cougar Woods trail. First hike of the season and our longest hike in a while for me and the pups. Nice to go have some time to clear my head.⠀ .⠀ Shin splints still giving me a little bit of hell, so gonna have to wait till next weekend before we take another hike.
